Purple Pumpkin Pie
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

If you should ever see a purple pumpkin tree
Pick a purple pumpkin out and save it just for me
There's nothing I like better than purple pumpkin pie
With lots and lots of cinnamon and Grandpa's old necktie
Oh wouldn't you like to have a cup of tea
Or sail a little boat across the sea
All the little birdies in the sky
Love to eat my purple pumpkin pie

When I was a baby, I liked to climb the trees
I found a purple pumpkin just a swingin' in the breeze
I put it in my pocket but my pants were in the wash
So my pretty purple pumpkin was squished just like a squash

The squash was really squishy and I had to cook it well
So I put it in a pie tin with some whipped cream and a bell
When the bell was ringin' then I knew that it was done
And my purple pumpkin pie and I were ready for some fun

Well all around the country from the city to the town
People came to try my pie from miles and miles around
Everybody liked it and everybody said
I believe this purple pumpkin pie's the best I ever had

Pancakes
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Here's a little riddle
For those who use a griddle
What's flat across the middle
And round around the edge
Easier than pie, why don't you just try some
I can't tell you why, everybody likes 'em
'Cuz they're pancakes, pancakes
Those sunny little tancakes
Stack 'em high right to the sky
And I'll be happy until I die
Oh pancakes, I love you so!

Cowboys in the stirrup
Eat 'em hot with syrup
It makes 'em glad they were up
In the early mornin' light
Eat 'em on the trail, no matter what our course is
Whenever they get too stale, we feed 'em to our horses

(Italics) Folks, I'll tell ya, I tried eggs and bacon
I tried English Muffins and those other things they're makin'
But even then I knew, I was only fakin'
'Cuz pancakes, I love you the best

For breakfast lunch or dinner
They'll always be a winner
They'll never make you thinner
But you'll be happy just the same
Pancakes goin' once (once!)
Pancakes goin' twice (that's twice)
Pancakes one two three times
Are three times just as nice because
I love you
Can't get enough of you
Oh pancakes, I love you so!

In the Moo
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Well if I was a Holstein cow
I would not say bow wow wow
I'd say moo
I'd say moo to you

In the morning I get a treat
All the birds sing tweet tweet tweet

Well if you wonder why cows say moo
That's the way they say how do you do
Cross the yard in the pen
The pigs say "oink," they're eating again

Well the cats "meow," the kittens too
The rooster says "Cockadoodleydoo"
Whoa, cockadoodleydoo
(Italics) But I say moo. Mooove over, it's milkin' time!

Finally the farmer coms to say
Good mornin' Bessie, how are you today

Young Buckaroo
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Well, I am just a cowboy, they call me Lucky Jack
And I am only happy when I’m on a horse’s back
I ride off to the sunset, if you want you can come along
But if you do you have to sing this cowboy song

Chorus:
Yippee Cay Yay-Ay, Yippee Cay Yo, Yahoo!
I’m a Young Buckaroo

Well if you wanna be a cowbow, you gotta learn how to walk
Drag your feet a little, try not to talk
If you all get hungry, we got peanut butter and jelly
And if you want your horse to stop just say, “Whoa there, Nelly!”
(Chorus)

Well, there’s a lot of famous cowboys, a few you oughta know
Have you heard of Pecos Bill? How ‘bout Sleepy Joe?
These boys aren’t the only ones, there’s lots of cowgirls too
Once I met miss Annie Oakley and she said “Howdydo!”
(Chorus)

Well buckaroo, it’s time to go, remember what I said
You gotta take your boots off when you go to bed
Late at night by the firelight when the crickets hum in tune
Sing me one more cowboy song underneath the moon
(Chorus)

Habitat
Words and music by Bill Oliver copyright 1982 Texas Deck Music, BMI
Additional "Jack and Janet" lyrics by Tom Knight

Habitat, habitat, have to have a habitat (3x)
You have to have a habitat to carry on

The ocean is a habitat, a very special habitat
It's where the deepest water's at
It's where the biggest mammals at
It's where our future food is at
It keeps the atmosphere intact
The ocean is a habitat we depend on (1, 2, 3, 4)

The forest is a habitat, a very special habitat
It's where the tallest trees are at
It's where a bear can scratch her back
Keeps the ground from rolling back
Renews the oxygen in fact
The forest is a habitat we depend on

The river is a habitat, a very special habitat
It's where the freshest water's at
For people fish and muskrat
When the people dump their trash
The river takes the biggest rap
The river is a habitat we depend on

People are different than foxes and rabbits
We affect the whole world with our bad habits
It's better to love it while we still have it
Or rata-tat-tat our habitat's gone

Singin' come on Jack and Janet
All we've got is this one planet
Take good care, it's only borrowed
Our children get it back tomorrow

Tiger Island
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Listen to me children and I will tell to you
A story my grandfather told me it was true
Far across the ocean, where no one ever looks
There's a little island that's not in any books
It's an island full of tigers, now don't you be afraid
The tigers all are friendly, they like lemonade
On Tiger Island, swimmin' in the sea
Tiger Island, it's a paradise for me

You go down to the water, water is so blue
All the little tigers want to play with you
Look at all the palm trees and the sunny sand
Birds look like a rainbow, they eat out of your hand
You go down to the water, water is so blue
Go down to the water, the tigers want to play too

High up in the treetops, the air is full of sound
All the little monkeys like to play around
Here we eat bananas, coconuts and fruits
Here you can go barefoot, no need to wear your boots

Someday we will go there, only me and you
Cross the mighty ocean, that's what we will do
Sail a ship of silver, following the stars
Until we see our island, finally there we are

Sing From Your Heart
Copyright 1992 by Elizabeth McMahon

Sing from your heart
Sing soft, sing low
Sing from your heart
Let the music go
Sing about frogs and giant crocodiles
Sing about stars and things that make you smile
La dee dah day
Shooby do wah, wah, wah
La dee dah day
Shooby do wah

Sing from your heart
Sing silly, sing strong
Sing from your heart
The words will come along
Sing about snails, porpoises and whales
Sing about queens and homemade fairy tales

Sing of today
The blue sky, the warm sun
Sing of today
Our story's just begun

Little Sheep
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Cross the valley, over the hill
Cross the river that's flowing still
Find your way to the place
Where all the sheep have gone to sleep

There the shepherd watches all
Listening for a distant call
And up above in the sky
The stars themselves sing lullabies

That's the time when the wind
Can lift you up to fly again
Back instead into your bed
When all the sheep have gone to sleep

Alligator Jump
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Mama Alligator and little Allie too
Were sittin’ in the kitchen and they didn’t’ know what to do
Mama said to Allie, Hey don’t ‘just count your toes
Dance the alligator, and this is how it goes

Alligator Jump
Alligator slide
All the alligators like to move from side to side
Alligator grunt
Alligator giggle
All the alligators like to turn around and wiggle

Papa Alligator said, Hey what’s goin' on
How do you do this dance and how do ya sing this song?
Allie said to Papa, hey you can do too
Dance the Alligator, and this is what you do (Chorus)

They started in the kitchen, then they danced into the den
And when the song was over then they put in on again
Then there came a knock on the Alligator’s door
It was Mr. Porcupine asking’ is there room for more (chorus)

They danced until the morning, until the sun came up
Then they fell asleep, but still they couldn’t stop
‘Cuz even in their dreams, the music’s playin’ on
Even fast asleep you can hear this little song, it goes (Chorus)

Jenning's Pond
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight
Also known as Danby Pond, this is a real place where you can swim in the Summer. I used to live just down the road from it.

Right near the middle of Danby town
A little ways up and a little ways down
There's a little place where we all can swim
Just get your suit and jump right in

Jenning's Pond, Jenning's Pond
Everybody get your swim suit on
Jenning's Pond, Jenning's Pond
Let's go to Jenning's Pond

Ducks and geese and muskrats too
It's almost like a local zoo
Kids and moms and dads and aunts
All go swimmin' when they get the chance

Well in the Summer it gets real hot
It gets hot more often than not
When you've been workin' or playin' too hard
It's nice to go swimmin' in your own backyard

Some folks like to go in slow
But I go as fast as I can go
Jump right in, it sure is fun
When you come out you get dried by the sun

So if you go to Danby town
Take a walk and look around
The hills are nice, the ducks are cute
And don't forget your swimmin' suit

Rise and Shine
Copyright 1992 by Elizabeth McMahon

Rise and shine
It's morning time
Jump in your clothes
Lace up your toes
Hop down stairs
Sit down to eat
Good mornin' everybody
Did you have a nice sleep?

Out the door
With a skip and a jump
It's Saturday
And you're ready to play
Run down to the creek
Run up to the pond
Those frogs are jumpin'
With their green suits on

Feel the sun
Warmin' up the sky
Pick some berries
For strawberry pie
They're four blue eggs
In the robin's nest
It's the season
The one I like best

So rise and shine
It's morning time
Jump in your clothes
Lace up your toes
Hop down stairs
Sit down to eat
Good mornin' everybody
Did you have a nice sleep?

The Song about Trains
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Can you hear the rumble, can you hear the sound
There’s a train a comin’ to our little town
Mighty like the thunder, like the buffalo
Can you hear the whistle blow?

Before any airplanes before any cars
There were trains that came here from both near and far
Cross the high sierra and the frontier states
All aboard now it’s not too late

‘Cuz it’s a train, train, train
Comin’ down the tracks
And it’s a train, train, train
With a big smoke stack
Engine’s at the front
Caboose is at the back
And it’s a train, train, train
Clickety Clack!

It used to take us six months just to cross our land
On a covered wagon through the burnin’ sand
But on a train the journey’s only seven days
From Omaha to the Frisco Bay

Atchison Topeka and the Santa Fe
They could climb a mountain in a single day
But the Union Pacific and the Central too
Joined their tracks and the train went through (Chorus)

This song’s for the hobos and the engineers
For the model makers and the balladeers
For anyone from any town who loves a train
For all my friends sing the song again (Chorus)

Walkin' the Dog
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Well, there's big dogs, little dogs, middle dogs too
Every dog does what a dog's gotta do
So you take her out walkiin witha a waggle and a smile
Take her out walkin' round the block for a while
I'm walkin' the dog, walkin' the dog
Walkin' and a rockin' and a walkin' the dog
I'm walkin' the dog, walkin' the dog
Walkin' and a rockin' and a walkin' the dog

When I get her leash, she gets excited
She's dancin' around, this dog is delighted
She runs to the door, she knows what to do
Don't you just wish you could be a dog too

She stops at the bushes, she stops at the trees
She wants to chase after every thing that she sees
Well, I'm walkin' her, she's walkin' too
Sometimes I wonder just who's walkin' who (Let's walk)

Well you know that some folks have a little cat
A cat'll do whatever they want and that's that
But I like my dog, dogs can do tricks
She can shake hands and then fetch me a stick

Walkin' in (Walkin' in)
Rockin' in (Rockin' in)
Walkin' and a rockin' and a walkin' the dog!

Monkey Monkey Monkey
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Monkey sits in the top of the tree
That's where he likes to stay
And if that monkey had his way
He would play all day

'Cuz he's a
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Monkey in the top of the tree
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Monkey looks a lot like me

Monkeys like to eat bananas
And coconuts that crunch
But they like to eat peanut butter and jelly
So hold on to your lunch

A monkey likes to swing and shout
And jumpin' on the bed
And if you walk under his tree
Watch out for your head

Monkey hangs down by his tail
Teasing the crocodile
You can't catch me, says the monkey
The crocodile just smiles

Three Little Monkeys
(trad.)

There were three little monkeys
Hangin' from a tree
Teasing Mr. Alligator
You can't catch me, you can't catch me
Along comes Mr. Alligator, quiet as can be
Snap!
 (And so on)

Mary -Go-Round
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round
She likes the funny musical sound
She's happy just to hear it
She loves to be so near it
Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round

Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round
She likes the palomino that's brown
With flowers on the saddle
Bells that ring and rattle
Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round

And Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round
She likes to go round and round
And Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round
She goes up and she comes down

Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round
Whenever she can travel to town
Of all the lads and lasses
Sweet as my molasses
Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round

Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round
She's rarely ever wearing a frown
And Mary's not contrary
She's the sun in January
Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round
Mary likes the Merry -Go-Round

Fog
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

Well, I like the fog, the mystery mist
When the clouds tangle low 'round the trees with a twist
When everything's quiet, soft as the air
Curled in the grass, like grandfather's hair

Well I'm wide awake, but it feels like a dream
Like the whole world is covered in low-fat whipped cream
Where does it come from, nobody knows
But I'm playing hide and seek with ends of my toes

What's that thing over there by the tree
I know it's not you and I know it's not me
Maybe it's a lion or a giant hedge hog!
Nope, it's just a bush with a coat made of fog

It feels so close, and yet it's so far
I want to reach out and touch it, take it home in a jar
I'd bring it to school, and I'd show it to all the kids
I'd say, "This is my fog. Don't open the lid!"

Well, that would be fun, and it makes me remember
How I like the fog of a cool November
When everything's quiet, soft as the air
Curled in the grass like grandfather's hair

The Sandman
copyright 1992 by Tom Knight

I know where the lion sleeps
Where you can talk to the fish
I know where the horses fly
Close your eyes, make a wish
And I know where the sunset goes
Where the moon likes to play
I know where the nightbird sings
At the end of the day

'Cuz my name is the sandman
I sprinkle stardust in your eyes
With a dream and a whisper
I'll lead you to the morning light

I know where the crickets hum
Where the little frog croaks (ribbit, ribbit)
I know where the hippos go
When they want to tell jokes
And I know where the green grass grows
Where the river runs free
I know where the stars shine down
On the tropical sea (chorus)

I know where the blanket's warm
Where the teddy bears are tame
I know where a little one
Is calling your name
And I know where a mom and dad
Wait for your eyes to close
I know where a gentle hand
Goes to tuck in your toes (chorus)

I'll lead you 'cuz I love you
I'll lead you to the morning light
